Stack
Stack is a vertical city, built in layers that stretch endlessly upward into the clouds. The ground floor is a dark, humid place of databases and servers, where silent monks tend to the roots of the world. Above them lies the layer of logic, a maze of brass gears and steam pipes that process the raw data into meaning. Higher still are the gardens of the interface, where the inhabitants live in glass houses that float on cushions of magnetic force. Every citizen is a builder, but they must master the skills of all three levels to be considered a true citizen of Stack.
The city is populated by rubber ducks of all sizes, which sit on the walls and watch the workers with unblinking eyes. It is said that when a builder is stuck, they must confess their problem to a duck to find the solution. The markets of Stack sell modular rooms that can be plugged into any building, and the currency is wisdom—13 bits of gold for a lesson learned the hard way. Stack is a city of total integration, where the foundation and the spire are one and the same.
