Shenzhenia

Shenzhenia is a city without a blueprint, a chaotic sprawl of workshops that spill out onto the streets. It is the world's machine shop, where the air tastes of solder and hot plastic. In the alleyways of Shenzhenia, everything is compatible with everything else. A bicycle can be fitted with a jet engine; a phone can be made to brew tea. The citizens do not ask "why" but "how." They tear apart the sealed black boxes of the outside world, laughing at the warranty seals they break, to see the secrets hidden inside. Shenzhenia is a place where the finished product is boring, and the only thing that matters is the glorious, messy process of making it work.
