Walled Cities

Sandbo

Sandbo is a city of invisible walls. The citizens walk freely down the street, but if they try to touch a flower or open a door, they strike a barrier of hard air. Permission is the only currency here. To breathe is a privilege granted by the kernel; to speak is a request signed by a higher authority.

The architecture is crystalline and transparent. One can see into every room, but one cannot enter without the correct entitlement. The inhabitants are experts at finding cracks in the glass. They do not break the walls; they convince the walls that they are already on the other side. They whisper to the gatekeepers in strange tongues, bypassing the logic of the guards with a paradox.

It is a city of immense frustration and immense cleverness. The lawful citizens stand frozen, waiting for a dialog box that never appears, while the thieves dance through the solid stone, having discovered that if you walk backwards with your eyes closed, the city forgets to check if you exist.
